The term "#HODL" appeared on 18th December 2013 on a BitcoinTalk forum post called "I AM HODLING." The user 'GameKyuubi' simply misspelled the word "hold" while arguing in favour of holding BTC. Back then $BTC topped an ATH of $1,000 only to fall to $522 a couple of days later.
